Create Your Own Color Shampoo: Here's How! 🧴🎨

Have you ever noticed that The Witcher's colorful hair sometimes looks a little faded? Well, that's probably because Witchi is simply too lazy to refresh the color. 😄

To help Witchi keep those rainbow locks vibrant, we've got the ultimate DIY tip for you today—and it might become your new favorite hair hack.

Make Your Own DIY Color Shampoo

Wouldn't it be amazing if your hair always looked as fresh as the day you dyed it?

Unfortunately, semi-permanent hair color fades a little with every wash. The good news is that you can replace some of those lost pigments during every shampoo by using your own DIY color shampoo.

That way, your color stays vibrant for much longer.

How Does a Color Shampoo Work?

A DIY color shampoo works like a color-depositing shampoo. Every time you wash your hair, a small amount of color pigment is added back into your hair.

All you need is:

  • your favorite Headshot Hair Color

  • a mild shampoo as your base

Why Should You Use a Mild Shampoo?

Shampoos contain ingredients called surfactants. They remove oil, dirt, and styling products from your hair.

The downside is that harsh surfactants can also wash color pigments out of your hair more quickly while drying it out.

Which Surfactants Are Gentle?

The gentlest surfactants are often:

  • Sugar-based surfactants (Glucosides)

  • Coconut-derived surfactants (Coco surfactants)

More aggressive cleansers often contain Sulfates.

Ingredient lists can be confusing, but there are plenty of helpful guides online that explain which surfactants are considered mild.

As a general rule:

❌ Clarifying shampoos and anti-dandruff shampoos usually contain stronger cleansing agents.

✅ Baby shampoos are often much gentler.

Choosing the Right Base Shampoo

Your shampoo should ideally be free from:

  • silicones

  • heavy conditioning ingredients

Too many conditioning agents can create a coating around the hair, making it harder for the color pigments to distribute evenly.

DIY: How to Mix Your Color Shampoo 🧪

Time to start mixing!

For darker shades, we recommend approximately:

3:1 to 2:1 (shampoo : hair color)

For very light pastel shades, a small spoonful of color is usually enough.

Feel free to experiment until you find the perfect balance for your hair.

Use your mixture just like a regular shampoo.

💡 Tip: Leave it on for about 2–5 minutes before rinsing. This gives the pigments more time to refresh your color.

Afterwards, we recommend using a conditioner or hair treatment designed for color-treated hair.

An Even Easier Alternative: Our Color Masks 💕

If you're looking for an even simpler way to refresh your color, our Headshot Color Masks are a fantastic option.

They refresh faded hair color while deeply nourishing your hair with moisturizing plant extracts. They're just as easy to use as a regular hair mask, and you can even mix different Color Masks together to create your own custom shades.

Are There Any Downsides?

Like every DIY solution, there are a few minor disadvantages.

  • You'll use a little more hair color over time than if you simply recolor your hair occasionally.

  • Using the shampoo can get a little messy.

  • The color refresh is gentler than applying a full layer of hair dye.

On the other hand, you'll keep your color looking fresher for much longer and won't have to recolor your hair as often.

Important! ⚠️

Please don't mix your Headshot Hair Color with a regular conditioner if you're trying to create a color shampoo.

Conditioners contain many nourishing ingredients that coat the hair. This can prevent the pigments from spreading evenly, resulting in patchy color.

If you'd rather refresh your color while conditioning your hair, we recommend using our specially developed Headshot Color Masks instead. They combine deep hair care with gentle color refreshment.

Hopefully we'll get to see Witchi rocking a beautiful rainbow hairstyle very soon. 🌈

Have fun trying it yourself!
